Zlatan in the advert
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has wasted no time in acclimatising to his new life in Los Angeles.

The international football star, who has left Manchester United to join the L.A Galaxy, is already forging a secondary career as an actor.

He stars in a bizarre television commercial for the gambling website Bethard, in which he can be seen squaring off with a mysterious enemy before sitting down with him for afternoon tea.

It is expected to be the first of many acting opportunities which will come his way in his new town.

The 36-year-old Swede announced his arrival in L.A. with a full-page advertisement in the Los Angeles Times to confirm his move to Major League Soccer after Manchester United agreed to cancel the final three months of his contract.

He has left Old Trafford after just a season-and-a-half in the Premier League to move to the USA after only managing seven appearances in his second season in England.

Ibrahimovic joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2016 and proved an instant success, scoring 28 goals in his debut campaign and helping United secure a League Cup and Europa League double before injuries struck.

with Cynthia last year.
Good news from New York where Cynthia Nixon has already started campaigning in her run for governor.

The former Sex and the City star faces a tough fight against two-time Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo but if anyone can unseat him, she can.

I have known Cynthia since 1999 when she was just becoming known for her role as Miranda in Sex and the City and I know her to be outspoken, highly intelligent and deeply committed to fighting for equality, justice and fairness.
Early days; with the Sex and the City girls

If elected she will be not only the city's first female governor, but also the first gay one.

It came as something as a surprise when she broke up with her longtime boyfriend Danny Mozes in 2003 after a 15 year relationship in which she had two children and began dating Christine Marinoni, an education and LGBTQ activist whom she married in 2012. They have a son.
In 2010, Nixon made headlines when she referred to Marinoni as a “short man with boobs,” in an interview with Advocate.

“She’s basically a short man with boobs. A lot of what I love about her is her butchness. I’m not saying I fell in love with her in a sexually neutral way. I love her sexuality—it’s a big part of what I love about her—but I feel like it was her. It wasn’t something in me that was waiting to come out. It was like, ‘This person is undeniable. How can I let this person walk by?'” she said.

“Christine would probably kill me for saying this, but my daughter said one time that if you really had to break this down, it looks like she would be butch and I would be femme…but it’s really the opposite,” she added.

Cynthia, who has an ally in New York Mayor Bill de Blasio,  is likely to challenge Cuomo from the left. Announcing her candidacy she said: "I love New York. I’ve never lived anywhere else. But something has to change. We want our government to work again, on healthcare, ending mass incarceration, fixing our broken subway. We are sick of politicians who care more about headlines and power than they do about us. It can’t just be business as usual anymore.”
Nixon has been critical of the Trump administration. Ahead of the State of the Union, Nixon pointed out that Trump’s first year in office has been “a dark year” for those in America “who value equal rights for all, or economic and racial justice, or want to combat climate change.”

She said that the “bleak” picture of Trump’s America has a silver lining: “America is still a democracy and the people can hold their leaders accountable,” she said. “That’s why it’s time to take our government back.”

Before becoming one of America's greatest actors Al Pacino began his professional career as a stand-up comic.
Al, 77, who will soon be seen in the HBO drama Paterno, playing disgraced football coach Joe Paterno, is a very funny man---a born raconteur with a seemingly endless fund of anecdotes and stories from his life and career.

One he told when we met in Beverly Hills recently:

"We didn't have a television and my mother would take me to the movies. Afterwards I would go home and enact the parts in the movies I had seen. When I saw The Lost Weekend with Ray Milland playing a drunk I was so affected by it.

"I would play the Ray Milland part at home ---the scene where he has left his bottle of booze somewhere and he can’t remember where he put it and he starts searching the house and he's going out of his mind...he's so distraught and he has to find it.
"Well, I would do that scene with such intensity, desperate to find the booze, full of anguish searching for it and as I was doing it, my relatives would be laughing. And I thought, 'This isn’t funny, why are they laughing?'

"And I only realized much later it wasn't my acting they were laughing at---- it was because I was five years old!"

On the basis of a brief meeting, Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood seems like a perfectly normal, straightforward young lady with none of the personal traumas and troubles endemic in Hollywood.

Yet the 28-year-old actress has had an exceptionally turbulent romantic and marital life and recently gave an emotional testimony to a House Judiciary Subcomittee in Washington DC describing two rapes she said happened a decade ago and the abuse she suffered from one of her boyfriends:

"It started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gas-lighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body. And the worst part: Sick rituals of binding me up by my hands and feet to be mentally and physically tortured until my abuser felt I had proven my love for him."

She continued: "While I was tied up and being beaten and told unspeakable things I truly felt like I could die. Not just because my abuser said to me, 'I could kill you right now,' but because in that moment I felt I had left my body and I was too afraid to run."

She said she was later assaulted by another man and explained that her previous experience made her a target, saying: "Being abused and raped previously made it easier for me to be raped again---not the other way round."

She said she was so affected by the sexual assaults that she spent time in a psychiatric hospital after attempting to commit suicide.

Evan Rachel, who has been acting in TV shows and movies since she was seven-years-old, has a four-year-old son with British actor Jamie Bell whom she met at the Sundance Film Festival in 2005, split up with him the following year, then reconciled in 2010. They married in October 2012 and separated 19 months later.

Between 2006 and 2010 she had an-off affair with Marilyn Manson and was rumoured to have been a factor in Manson's divorce from his wife of one year Dita Von Teese.  She and Manson split in 2008, reconciled in 2009 and became engaged in 2010. They ended their engagement in August 2010.
In January last year she became engaged to Zach Villa, her bandmate in the band Rebel and a Basketcase, but they called off their engagement eight months later.

She also briefly dated actor-musician Shane West and her True Blood co-star Alexander Skarsgard.

She is currently taking a break from romance and in her new movie Allure she ironically stars as  a former survivor turned abuser who becomes obsessed with, seduces and emotionally abuses a teenage girl.

“I thought, you want equal opportunity for women? That also means in this way: looking at the dark side," she says.

On the set with Krysten Ritter
The new season of Jessica Jones has started streaming on Netflix, which gives me an excuse to use a picture with the wonderful  Krysten Ritter, who plays the angry, leather jacket-and-ripped- jeans-clad  superhero.
I meet the delightful Krysten, who also sings with a rock band called Ex Vivian, in the studio where the new series is being filmed in Long Island City where Jessica's apartment and her Alias Private Investigations office have been meticulously constructed.
Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones

As we pick up the story Jessica is still smouldering with rage, drinking heavily and attending anger management classes while hustling for clients for her P.I business.

The story of a prickly woman with superhuman strength, a drinking problem and past traumas that include sexual abuse, has resonated with viewers far beyond the Comic-Con crowd.

As the Variety reviewer says: "Krysten's Jessica is a gender-bending mishmash of noir traits---femme fatale and hardboiled detective rolled into one with the dank P.I. office and smudged eyeliner to prove it.....
Krysten on the sert

"Ritter has to sell a character that is an inherent ball of contradictions as a recognisable, appealing whole. She makes it a breeze, playing Jessica with a contained, slouching energy that belies her readiness to snap."
  Beautifully put!

Lively, vivacious and funny, 35-year-old Krysten tells me: "The tone of the show is very sort of dark noir and it’s really more of a psychological thriller than anything else Marvel has done.

""Sometimes you forget its a superhero show. We spend so much time in Jedssica's head and, in season 2, in her heart. We keep her boots on the ground and people gravitate and connect to her real-world problems."
